In duping students, Fairland University is not alone

The National Council for Higher Education has cancelled the license of Fairland University for operating far below the minimum standard of an institution of higher learning.

The Council said that the institution, on top of lacking lecturers and basic infrastructure, had stubbornly persisted in teaching unaccredited courses, opened up unauthorized study centers and submitted forged audited accounts to the body.

The Islamic University’s thorny journey

Ssengendo made Sunday in the first of a series of Ramadhan seminars organized by the Uganda Muslim Youth Assembly at Kibuli Primary Teachers College, the Rector recounts how his university endured enormous challenges to establish four campuses across the country. Of these continuing challenges, he says, Muslim hypocrites pose a vast hazard.

Fake degree courses

When we first published this article in the print version of The Campus Journal in January 2010, Makerere University reacted by scrapping several duplicated and fabricated degree programmes, including B.A. Environmental Management, B.A. Secretarial Studies, M.A. Peace and Conflict Studies, among others. These and many other bogus courses, however, are still taught in other Ugandan universities. Even Makerere still teaches some of them.
